Our Musical Director :.

Born in 1953 Rob started playing the Bb cornet at the age of nine with the Enderby Band and soon discovered that he could play high notes with great ease. After leaving Enderby Rob became a member of the Leicester Imperial Band and it was whilst there that he took up the position of Soprano Cornet.

In 1972 at the age of 19 he joined the Leicester Foresters Band on Soprano and saw the band rise through the Brass Band rankings eventually gaining Championship Section status. During his stay there he also took up the position of Musical Director of the Foresters Youth Band. It was during this time that he gained much respect and loyalty from his band members, so much so, that when he decided to form his very own brass band, most of the players stayed with him, so in 1981 The foresters Youth Band became Unity Brass! Again, this time as a conductor, he saw his band climb the rankings ladder, eventually gaining promotion to the Championship Section in 1999.

Rob has played in bands of all levels during his playing career and has also conducted a number of bands with the Kibworth, Syston, and Wigston Bands all having played under his baton. Rob was taught by several highly regarded musicians, probably the most influential being Ray Farr and Robert Coates who obviously passed on a wealth of knowledge.

Rob lives in Leicestershire and is married to Unity Brass 1st Horn player Di. When they are not banding they are kept busy with their young son Callum, building their house, and an allotment!!!
